Tons of Local Produce on Lunch Trays
Community Story

Wello secured grant funding from the USDA to purchase a Robot Coupe for Green Bay Are Public Schools, with the goal of increasing capacity to process local, fresh produce. The Robot Coupe resulted in two bulk processing events that brought together food service staff across Brown County school districts to prepare 4,800 pounds of local veggies for school lunches. The October 2016 event was even featured nationally in the USDA’s Farm to School newsletter. Through Farm to School efforts like these we have seen an increase of over 500% of total food service budget spent on local produce. When schools purchase locally, revenue remains in our community and supports the economic health of our local food producers.
