Green Bay and Wello Embarks on a Transformative Journey with the JBS Redevelopment Project

Wello, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit nationally recognized for its work in community well-being, is proud to be selected by the City of Green Bay to lead the development of a strategic plan for the farmable land and a community space of the JBS Redevelopment Project.

On August 27th, 2024,  Wello and the City of Green Bay celebrated the groundbreaking of the city’s most extensive community-led initiative, the JBS Redevelopment Project. It marked a pivotal moment in Green Bay’s journey toward a healthier, more connected, and equitable future.

This redevelopment will focus on expanding housing, creating accessible parks, and bridging diverse communities, ensuring all residents have access to the resources, connections, and opportunities they need to thrive. Wello will bring over a decade of experience in building local food systems to the development of a strategic plan for the City around what is called the “Urban Barn. This "barn" will serve as a vibrant hub where agriculture, economic development, education, and culture come together to create a space that serves everyone.

This development reflects our belief that community well-being is a collective responsibility, offering everyone an opportunity to contribute to a project bigger than themselves. We are committed to celebrating the history, diverse cultures, and traditions of our region by working closely with local farmers, community organizations, and cultural leaders.

The theme of the community events will include a pre-tailgate party, a potluck with a meat raffle, a pop-up farmers market, a pumpkin patch and painting event, and a cultural concert night, designed to be inclusive, accessible, and reflective of our city’s diversity.

Together, with the City of Green Bay and our partners, we are committed to creating a future where well-being is a reality for all. This project is not just about development—it’s about fostering a community where everyone feels connected and valued.
